International Shoppers Tutorial

All international shoppers purchasing tangible goods must register for a “SOTR Debit Account”. These goods will be purchased through the SOTR purchasing department and require you to have a SOTR Debit Account. Tangible goods include electronics, apparel, books, furniture, jewelry, ect.

If you are purchasing travel or internet based services then you do not need a SOTR Debit Account. These services may be purchase buy all shoppers directly through your chosen merchant located in the SOTR Mall. Travel includes flights, cruises, vacation packges, rental cars, and hotel stays. Internet based services inclued web hosting, domain purchases, and anything you download.

Registration


The SOTR Debit Account registrations process takes about 5 minutes and is a one time registration. Before beginning the registration process please check with your bank to see if there are any account holds that would prevent Shop Off The Rock from processing your card through our PayPal terminal when you make a deposit. If there are, please have the holds removed so there are no delays in processing your request. SOTR will store your information for future use.

During registration you will be asked for some basic personal information, a primary shipping address, and then to make a deposit with SOTR. The amount deposited will indicate the amount of spending you can do through SOTR. The funds deposited will pay for your goods and services ordered, domestic and international shipping when applicable, and all SOTR fees. When those funds are running low or run out you can login and deposit additional funds to your “SOTR Debit Account” to accommodate additional orders.

Once you have signed up you will receive a confirmation e-mail that will be sent to the e-mail address you signed up with. Your registration e-mail is also your “Username”. Once you have confirmed your SOTR account, you can login and begin shopping.

Shopping Stores Located on SOTR


You can surf stores listed by either store name or category. When you are in a store and find a product you want to buy, open up your “Shopping Cart”. The “Shopping Cart” is found under both the “Shopping Tools” button on the main navigation bar as well as on interior frame pages navigation bar. Once in the shopping cart you will be able to enter in the product information for the items you wish to purchase. You can add as many items as you wish from as many different stores you wish. Your shopping cart will stay populated by your choices as long as you are logged in.

Shopping Stores Not Listed on SOTR


If you want to purchase goods from a store in the US, but can not find it listed on SOTR, you CAN still buy from that store. You can actually buy from any store using SOTR that is available online in the US! The only difference in buying from a store not listed on SOTR, and one that is listed, is a 4% purchasing fee charged in addition to the purchase price of your items. All other SOTR services, procedures, and fees remain the same. That includes creating a Debit Account, making a deposit to your account, and entering in shipping information, and submitting order details through the SOTR Shopping Cart.

When in the SOTR Shopping Cart please select the Shop Off The Rock - Off Site Store in the store field. Then enter in your product information as usual, and lastly in the special notes section please tell us what store your order information comes from. For example, if you are ordering from Macy's, then indicate in the special notes section that your order comes from Macy's.

Shipping Options


When you are done shopping, and have filled out your “Shopping Cart”, submit your order. You will then be asked about shipping instructions. You can have your goods shipped in a number of different ways.

We can have your order shipped direct to you from your retailers if they have international shipping to your destination. If they do not offer international shipping you can have your goods shipped to SOTR where we will forward them to your primary shipping address or another international shipping address of your choosing.

If you buy through SOTR from outside the US, and want to ship within the continental US, we will arrange for that to happen directly from the store we are purchasing from to minimize costs and maximize efficiency. If you want your goods picked up from SOTR by a third party or another carrier that is fine too. Just indicated in “notes” sections in your “Shopping Cart” any special instruction you may have. Additionally, if you are aware of or have a preferred carrier to your international shipping address please inform SOTR of that carrier and we will use them to ship to you when possible.

Customs, Duty and Import Fees


Please note that all customs, duty and import fees are due to shipping and/or customs agents when goods arrive at your international shipping address and are additional and separate from any fees deducted from your “SOTR Debit Account”.

US and Canadian Shoppers Tutorial

US and Canadian shoppers should approach SOTR as they would any mall in the US. For example, if you were walking through a shopping mall in the US you would enter stores that have what you are shopping for, pick your goods off the shelf and check out at the register. The only difference with SOTR is that you will be entering the same stores online, picking out your goods and services, and having them shipped directly to your door. Because you have a US credit/debit card, and domestic shipping and billing address’ you do not need a “SOTR Debit Account” like non-US residents. Just shop like you would at other online malls.

Can I buy from a store not listed on SOTR?

Why should I use SOTR?

Because we provide a unique purchasing solution for non-US residents and non-US credit/debit card holders, we open all online stores to shoppers outside the US. SOTR accepts non-US owned MasterCard, Visa, American Express and PayPal accounts. We act as a consumer clearing house allowing non-US shoppers to buy US goods and services online. Shopping online and not having to travel to the US saves you hundreds if not thousands of dollars usually spent on travel, rental car, and accommodations while shopping in the US.

What is the SOTR debit account?

This is an account that Non-US debit/credit card holders can set up so they are able to purchase goods and services online through the Shop Off The Rock website. SOTR sets up a debit account where a shopper will deposit funds into our account using their countries debit/credit card or PayPal. The shopper then surfs the online stores and fills out the SOTR Shopping Cart and submits the information. SOTR will then make the purchase for the shopper and debit your funds on account to complete the purchase. When filling out the SOTR Shopping Cart you will have the option to have your goods shipped to SOTR and forwarded on to you through SOTR carriers; or SOTR will enter in the “ship to” information you entered on the order form and ship direct to you via the retailer’s best carrier.

What payment methods are accepted by SOTR?

When creating a SOTR Debit Account you may make deposits using MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover Card and PayPal.

How do I use Shop Off The Rock?

First you must decide what kind of shopper you are. If you have a credit card you know is accepted by US stores when checking out online, then you simply visit the store you want, make a selection, fill out your shipping information and checkout just like if you walked into a store in any US mall.

However, if you are like many SOTR users, and you do not have a credit card accepted by US stores, or your billing address does not match your card number, or at checkout your shipping address is not accepted by a given store, then you cannot complete your online purchase.

By creating a SOTR Debit Account you will be able to buy your goods and services online, select a shipping option, and then SOTR will complete your purchase. For a more detailed explaination please see one of our tutorials above.

What is the minimum deposit required for the SOTR Debit Account?

Currently there is no minimum amount required for deposit. Simply deposit enough money to cover your purchases and shipping.

Does SOTR provide shipping to all countries?

SOTR is not a carrier. We work with many carriers so we can assist in delivering your goods and services to you in the fastest and most cost effective manner. If you have an account with us, and you have a preferred carrier serving your area, please let us know and we will be as accommodating as possible.

Do I have to use SOTR for shipping?

No, you can use whatever carrier you wish. Some carriers work better to certain locations and as informed residents of your country we suggest you make that decision. You are able to use SOTR storage facility to hold items to be picked up or have SOTR deliver your freight to a freight forwarder of your choice in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area. Delivery and storage fees apply.

What if I want to return an item purchased through SOTR?

SOTR offers a purchasing solution to allow shoppers to purchase goods and services online. We do not own any of the merchandise offered for sale through our website, so SOTR customers must abide by the return policies of the stores where your goods or services were purchased.

Does SOTR offer refunds on money deposited in a SOTR Debit Account?

Yes, we will credit the balance of unused funds in your SOTR Debit Account. There is a 5% charge on all funds credited back.

What are the fees charged by SOTR?

  • SOTR Debit Deposits - there is a 5% charge on the gross amount deposited to your account. If you deposit $100.00 we will deduct 5% or $5.00, and you will have $95.00 to spend in your SOTR Debit Account.
  • SOTR Debit Refunds are charged - 5% on gross total refunded. In the above example if you wanted your $95.00 refunded we would deduct 5% or $5.00 and you would be refunded $90.00. There is no charge for leaving money in your account with SOTR. Any amount deposited at a later date will increas your amount on account.
  • Online Store Purchases - There is NO charge to purchase anything from stores listed on the Shop Off The Rock site. If you want to buy from a store not listed on the Shop Off The Rock site that is fine. We then add a convienience fee of 4% on the items you purchase.
  • Freight Forwarding and Processing by SOTR – When items are shipped to SOTR and we process and fill out further paperwork to complete shipping to you: $10 per package up to 5 packages, and then $7 dollars per package for each package over 5 packages.
  • SOTR Holding Fee – For items shipped to SOTR for pick-up and/or delivery by a third party individual or carrier: $5 per package.
  • Local Delivery Fee – For those who want packages dropped off with freight forwarders for final shipping: Ft. Lauderdale $70 - Miami $100 - West Palm Beach $100
  • Freight Storage Fee – TBD. Call or e-mail for rates.
